The Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Washington expects the availability of several Pearson Fellow positions, starting September 16, 2025, for a term of up to three years. Pearson Fellows are hired as Acting Instructors and have a reduced teaching load. Applicants in all areas of applied mathematics are encouraged to apply, but particularly in the research areas that are currently represented in the department (climate and atmospheric science, data science, dynamical systems, financial mathematics, mathematical biology, mathematical methods, nonlinear waves, numerical analysis, scientific computing, and optimization). These full-time 9-month temporary positions are renewable depending on, as applicable, satisfactory teaching performance and research progress.
Applicants are expected to have a background and interest in applied mathematics or related areas and an ability and affinity for communicating ideas of applied mathematics, in both teaching and research settings.
Washington State Law requires that this ad list a binding salary range. The base salary for this position will be $8,000 per month ($72,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Applicants should hold a PhD, or foreign equivalent, in (applied) mathematics or a related field of application by the start of the appointment. Applicants must demonstrate a strong record of research in a relevant area of applied mathematics.
