About the Role:
As a Donor Services Specialist, you will be the vital link between donor families and recipients, ensuring that every opportunity for tissue and eye donation is honored. You will provide compassionate support to families during difficult times, guiding them through the donation process with empathy and respect. Your work will directly contribute to saving and healing lives.
What You'll Do:
Identify and evaluate potential organ, tissue, and eye donor referrals.
Gather and interpret patient medical and social history information.
Triage donor referral calls and communicate with appropriate team members.
Accurately complete all required documentation.
Determine initial donor suitability based on established criteria.
Access and navigate hospital electronic medical records systems.
Provide support for end-of-life decisions regarding tissue and eye donation.
Identify and contact next of kin for potential donors.
Discuss the opportunity for tissue and eye donation with families and obtain authorization/disclosure.
Provide families with information about eligible tissues, the recovery process, and the benefits of donation.
Maintain an individual authorization rate that meets departmental benchmarks.
Participate in mandatory training sessions.
Conduct comprehensive medical and social history interviews with families.
Accurately complete electronic donor risk assessment interviews.
Communicate with funeral homes as needed.
Collaborate with the Tissue Administrator on Call to determine tissue processor involvement.
Ensure departmental quality guidelines are met and provide excellent customer service.
Respond to audit findings and processor requests promptly.
Accurately complete charting error tasks and respond to inquiries.
Initiate and respond to occurrences.
Provide exceptional customer service in all situations.
Serve as a backup for other specialist roles as needed.
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in a clinical healthcare field (LPN, Paramedic, Clinical Health Technician) or related experience in tissue banking.
Minimum 18 months of experience in a family support role within an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO).
CTBS certification preferred.
Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and make sound decisions under pressure.
Proficiency with computers, email, and application navigation.
Ability to multitask.
High level of empathy.
Schedule:
12.5-hour shifts, including two weekend shifts and four weekday shifts in a two-week period.
Day shift: 6:00 am - 6:30 pm
Night shift: 6:00 pm - 6:30 am
Location:
Fully remote (excluding California, New York, and Colorado).
