Farm Manager / Beef Cattle Herdsman- responsible for the daily management of a 500-head feedlot operation at Jason Scott Farms in Pocahontas, Iowa. Also assists with other needs related to the farm and beef operations.
Responsibilities and Duties: ● Daily management of feedlot operation ----- Feeding- routine daily feeding, supplements, rations ----- Health-routine herd health procedures such as vaccinations, deworming, fly control, and proper identification. Identify/diagnose health programs and administer proper care or work with veterinarian. ● Data collection and accurate record-keeping: weights, measurements, health records ● Feedlot facility upkeep: pressure washing, manure removal, mowing, maintains fencing and paneling, general farm maintenance tasks to ensure a presentable cattle operation ● Assist with sales and customer interaction: prepare cattle for sale, assist with delivery of cattle to feedlot, assist transportation of cattle for sale, maintain positive relationships with feedlot customers and buyers ● Assist with the production of hay and row crop operation ● Support the overall farm's mission of continually improving the cattle feedlot operation with highest-quality health, feed, operational and marketing management ● Maintain a quality reputation of Jason Scott Farms Qualifications: ● BS degree in Animal Science (or related field) is preferred, however, a high school diploma with combined 3-5 years of cattle operation and/or management considered. ○ Basic cattle management skills such as nutrition, heard health and performance evaluation ● Valid drivers license and CDL strongly preferred ● Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly ● Good communications skills- verbally, written and digitally ● Basic equipment skills, such as tractors, skid loaders, ATVs ● Availability to work necessary off-hours, evenings or weekends as needed for the highest care and management of the cattle operation Compensation & Benefits: ● Annual salary of $40,000 dependent on previous experience, 2 weeks of annual vacation and 5 sick days; available housing of 3-bedroom updated acreage with outbuildings less than one mile away from cattle feedlot...role is responsible for ensuring the proper mechanical functioning of plant equipment and machinery and to troubleshoot any electrical/electronic malfunctions, completing... ...in manufacturing programming, ladder logic, motor controls Minimum 2 years of PLC troubleshooting...
