Job Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced, proven, private estate grounds manager to maintain and manage the care and enhancement of their estate’s landscapes. This prestigious estate is approximately 60 acres known for its exquisite gardens, landscaped grounds, and natural beauty. This position will maintain approximately 15 acres. Our client prides themselves in maintaining a serene and visually stunning environment while providing a safe and welcoming atmosphere.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will possess a passion and proven commitment to quality and excellence of maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces, landscaping, horticulture, and grounds management, while ensuring they are safe and functional, aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally sustainable.

Key Responsibilities

The private estate grounds manager will maintain and care for approximately 15 acre parcel which contains a 3.5 acre pond, 1.5 acres of lawn, large 70,000 swimming pool with waterfall and 3/8 mile of river frontage on the property.

Grounds Maintenance : Develop, implement and perform grounds maintenance schedules and programs to ensure optimal plant health, landscape aesthetics, and environmental sustainability.

Landscape Design and Implementation: Implement comprehensive grounds maintenance plans, including landscape design, turf management, and tree care.

Irrigation Systems: Monitor and manage irrigation systems for optimal water distribution; monitor pond electrical and pump system, ensuring optimal watering practices for plant health, perform regular maintenance and repairs as needed.

Equipment Management: Maintain and service grounds maintenance equipment and storage of all groundskeeping equipment and tools such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers; ensure they are in good working condition and replace or repair, as necessary. Maintain clean and organized storage areas for tools and equipment.

Safety Compliance: Maintain compliance with all environmental regulations and safety standards, including the proper use of equipment and adherence to regulations regarding chemical use and waste disposal.

Seasonal Preparation: Plan and prepare seasonal change landscaping projects, including leaf removal in fall, and planting and seasonal flower rotation in spring and summer. Conduct regular evaluations of the property’s landscape to recommend improvements or enhancements.

Budget Management: Manage the grounds maintenance budget, monitoring expenditures and making cost-effective recommendations for supplies, equipment, and while maintaining quality to ensure all services are performed within budgetary guidelines. Source and procure landscaping materials, tools, and equipment in alignment with budgetary constraints.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with property owners and other parties to understand their needs and preferences for the grounds. - Communicate regularly with owners regarding ongoing projects, maintenance schedules, and any potential disruptions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, or landscaping, preferably in a private estate or high-end residential setting. Associate’s degree or some college in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Environmental Science, or a related field a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of landscaping maintenance practices, plant species, pest control measures, and equipment operation.
  • Proficient in landscape design principles and sustainability practices.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with property owners, staff, and vendors.

  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management.
  • Proficient in using grounds maintenance equipment and tools, including lawn mowers, trimmers, and irrigation systems.
  • Valid driver’s license: relevant certifications (such as pesticide application) are a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical labor in various weather conditions. Must be able to lift heavy equipment and materials, in accordance with safety protocols.
