Job Overview:

As a Shipyard Staffing Electrician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment on ships. You will work in a shipyard environment, often outdoors, and may be required to work at heights or in confined spaces. Your primary goal will be to ensure that all electrical systems on board ships are functioning correctly, safely, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment on ships, including generators, switchboards, motors, lighting, and communication systems.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to determine the layout, assembly, and installation of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with electrical systems and develop solutions to fix them.
  • Conduct regular maintenance on electrical systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and to prevent breakdowns or other issues.
  • Fabricate and repair parts using electrical and electronic test equipment, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, such as voltmeters, to ensure that electrical systems are functioning within specifications.
  • Operate equipment such as cranes, forklifts, and other heavy machinery to move parts and equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Military, vocational or technical school training in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience as an electrician in a shipyard or marine environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including generators, motors, and communication systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proficient in the use of electrical and electronic test equipment, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery, such as cranes and forklifts.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
