Our Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Copywriter for our Business Development team in Oakland, California. As a copywriter on our lean and fast-paced Marketing team — housed within Business Development — you’ll help bring Exponent’s high-impact work to life across a variety of print and digital materials, from thought leadership, case studies, and social media to presentation decks and brochures to HR and recruiting collateral.

You will be responsible for:

• Writing – a lot. This is a role for an experienced, sophisticated, efficient writer who is ready to be inspired and challenged by a near-endless buffet of topics and assignment types. When we say Never Boring, we mean it
• Conducting interviews. You know the right questions to ask and how to follow the story as it develops live, in real time, while seamlessly summarizing and establishing expectations for the draft process
• Developing topic and story angles that are aligned to Exponent’s strategic and brand initiatives, including guiding free-form content brainstorming sessions and actively supporting subject-matter experts in finding “the story”
• Digging into the technical details of Exponent’s engineering and scientific capabilities without getting lost in the weeds – you’ll navigate diverse technical topics while keeping an eye on multiple priorities
• Working in multiple formats, including PowerPoint, to support direct sales and custom client pitch opportunities
• Ensuring the consistency of all content in accordance with Exponent’s brand tone and style requirements
• Absorbing subject-matter expert feedback flexibly, providing edits for revisions and appropriate solutions / editorial approaches, as needed
• Developing knowledge of Exponent’s business continuously, connecting the dots between strategic messaging and priorities and bringing those nuances to bear on our content
• Suggesting creative ways of repurposing, repackaging, and upcycling Exponent’s new and existing content to maximize our resources and impact
• Supporting broader marketing operations as needed, including copyediting and proofreading of other copywriters’ work to keep our pipeline running smoothly
• Contributing to interdepartmental process documentation and optimization inside our fast-evolving department

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

• 10+ years of professional writing experience
• The ability to absorb technical information and juggle multiple assignments fluidly and efficiently
• A portfolio of meaningful writing samples
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field of study
• A knack for distilling complex technical capabilities into content that resonates with our target audiences at the right level – our stakeholders are experts in their own right
• Top-notch interviewing skills and the ability to quickly spot which topics are ripe for thought leadership, case studies, white papers, are well-suited to graphics, etc
• A natural affinity for if not direct experience in technical and/or relevant industry content development, marketing, and related communications
• A strong sense of ownership and accountability – you thrive on connecting the dots, hunting down answers, and keeping projects moving
• A tactical understanding of B2B marketing writing and strategies
• An agile, growth mindset – our team is evolving, which requires team members who are ready to test new ideas, adapt to changing needs, and roll up their sleeves and get the job done when shifting priorities and deadlines demand it
• Excellent communication skills – both verbally and written, as needed to communicate and chase down actions with our internal clients with
• Working knowledge of AP style highly preferred
• Strong familiarity with PowerPoint and best practices in presentation and slide development
• Basic SEO experience and knowledge of optimization tools such as SEM Rush a plus

Compensation:

The pay rate for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.

Salary Range: USD $95,000.00 - USD $120,000.00 /Yr. Benefits you will enjoy:
