Job Description

Position Title: School Monitor
Location: Art in Motion- 7415 S East End Ave, Chicago, IL 60649
Reports To: School Principal
Salary: starting at $42,029, commensurate with experience
Type: Regular Full Time
Start Date: Winter 2025 OR School Year 2025-2026

Overview:

The School Monitor will ensure a safe experience for all students by supervising school grounds and students during instructional, non-instructional, before, and after school activities. They will provide assistance to teachers and students in relation to the overall safety of the school. A School Monitor is responsible for maintaining the safety of all students on campus. Working hours may vary depending on campus need.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students in the halls, gathering rooms and school grounds, monitoring noise level and student behavior, and ensuring a safe and inclusive environment
  • Support students in the development of their social emotional awareness during free play time assisting students with conflict resolution
  • Assist with enforcing COVID 19 campus protocol
  • Practice verbal de-escalation and restorative intervention techniques
  • Serve as a positive mentor for students across all grades
  • Complete incident reports/referrals in a clear and concise manner, referring students to the appropriate personnel should disciplinary action be deemed necessary
  • Follow and enforce all campus safety protocols, school policies, and code of conduct
  • Assist staff regrading student control problems
  • Operate a two-way radio to communicate with school leadership and staff
  • Collaborate with Dean of Students to perform any other duties assigned
  • Uphold all Distinctive Schools professional responsibilities consistent with the mission and working agreements of Distinctive Schools
  • Assist with arrival and dismissal

Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Qualifications

  • Must have experience working with children in education or volunteer setting
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and hit numerous deadlines simultaneously
  • Technology demands:
    • Ability to learn digital tools and and programs as needed for the position
  • Ability to work set schedule based (before, during, or after school)

Physical demands: Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 15% walking, and 80% standing (ability to work on your feet for 4-6 hours daily)
