Job Description
Caster/Hot Mill Superintendent oversees 3 shift operation of casting and hot mill.
Encompasses : refining process; assuring correct chemistries and temperature. Make heat changes. Supervise degassing process to assure product quality and temperature control. Monitor speed of Caster and Melt Shop production; adjusts to meet processing needs and maximize production. Monitor every heat opening sets up parameters. Monitor tonnage; determines number of heats. Monitor cast rolls, blooms and bloom lengths. Review computer programs; perform line-up changes, heat intermixes and Chem Lab computer. Track, plan and update production reports. Assure ship-outs and scrap material is correctly labeled. Supervise staff: administer the basic labor agreement, train and assign employees; monitor performance; and administer discipline. Approve scheduling and overtime. Implement safety policies and procedures; makes safety contacts and maintains safety records. Troubleshoot operational problems; identifies and implements corrective actions. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction. Assure conformance to all quality standards and assists with maintenance of the quality management systems (TS 16949)
Bachelor"s Degree Equivalent training / experience will be considered. Demonstrated knowledge of primary steelmaking and casting. Basic understanding of metallurgical principles and practices. Basic maintenance skills. Demonstrated supervisory / leadership experience preferable in a union environment. Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and NRS regulations. Demonstrated computer skills: data management and retrieval; word processing; spreadsheets; email and internet. Written and oral communication skills including strong listening skills. Interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to relate to all types of people; demonstrated trust and integrity. Troubleshooting and organizational skills. Demonstrated flexibility and resilience. Ability to meet deadlines under pressure; demonstrated ability to multi-taskng. Demonstrated knowledge of total quality management systems. Demonstrated compliance with good housekeeping and safety practices.
