Job Description

Sony Pictures Entertainment, DCS Technical Services department is seeking a dynamic, charismatic, tech savvy individual with in-depth, hands-on knowledge of current digital cinema technologies, projection, video and sound equipment, broad technical knowledge of production and postproduction processes and servicing as well as video lab experience.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform as the Digital Technician for Sony Pictures at the corporate office in NY. This person will coordinate and schedule events, screenings, and corporate meetings in the screening room.
  • This individual will be responsible for machine and system configuration, connection, and troubleshooting.
  • This individual will receive and inspect content for playback with the screening room equipment.
  • This individual will be responsible for working with the different groups within Sony to transcode content between different file types as needed for playback at the Sony Screening Room, or for digital transfers to outside clients.
  • This individual will assist with high profile SPE New York City theatrical screenings. This individual is the technical liaison between the directives of the Directors, DP’s and Studio Executives, the projectionist, and the theater equipment, to ensure the best quality picture and sound for the show.

Education, Years of Experience, Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required:

  • Excellent working knowledge of:
  • Current projection equipment (e.g., Sony 4K, Christie, Barco, NEC 4K, IMAX); 3D technologies and implementations with current projectors and screens; multi-standard video decks.
  • Current sound equipment and cinema sound formats (e.g. Dolby and Datasat cinema processors, 7.1, 5.1 , Atmos, Auro-3D, DTS-X, IMAX), amplifiers, speakers, routers and all related B-Chain equipment.
  • Dolby, Christie, Barco, and NEC certifications are a plus.
  • Accessibility equipment:
  • Visually Impaired (VI) accessibility equipment and its utilization, such as closed caption technologies.
  • Hearing Impaired (HI) track playback and related equipment, such as special headphones and other HI playback equipment.
  • Excellent knowledge of encode, transcode, compression, file conversion, and data transfer technology.
  • Knowledge of Production and Postproduction workflows, including video dubbing, editing, standards conversation, and quality assurance testing.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with, and balance requests from executives, projectionists, and management.
  • Initiative to self-learn and keep pace with new technology / not afraid to “right click” or conduct own research.
  • Working knowledge on industry production and business applications on both PC and MAC, e.g., Office products, Linux, Final Cut Pro, Avid, Pro Tools).
  • Self-motivating and able to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently, to make calculated decisions and strong issue resolution skills.
  • 5 + years’ experience working directly with Digital Cinema projection and sound equipment.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in audio and /or video post-production environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $65,589 to $99,135. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
